Tom Rothwell received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1976 from Cornell University. After twenty-two years of private practice in East Hampton, NY, he entered the PhD program in vertebrate paleontology at Columbia University and the American Museum of Natural History. Concentrating on the fossil history of felids under Dr. Malcolm McKenna and Dr. Richard Tedford, he received his PhD in 2001. Upon graduation, Dr Rothwell worked as a Research Associate in the fossil mammal section of the Department of Vertebrate Paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History and has since published numerous scientific articles on the natural history of cats in North America. In 2005, Dr. Rothwell became the medical director of the Paris Hill Cat Hospital in nearby Sauquoit, NY.
